HWA RANG DO® and TAE SOO DO® are registered tradenames held by the Founder Dr. Joo Bang Lee and are licensed and controlled by the one and only governing organization, the World Hwa Rang Do® Association. The martial art name HWA RANG DO® was founded by Dr. Joo Bang Lee as was the martial sport TAE SOO DO®. In order to protect the trademark name, the copyrights, and reputation of the martial art HWA RANG DO® and martial sports TAE SOO DO®, the following applications are protected. Spelling differences occur since the Korean language (when translated to English) is phonetically, yet all mean the same (i.e. HWA RANG, FARANG, WHA RANG these are identical in meaning. DO, MU DO, MU YEA, SUL, and MU SUL are also identical in meaning. Other examples are: Hwarang-Do, Farang-Do, Hwa-Rang-Do, Fa-Rang-Do, HWARANGDO, FARANGDO, Wharangdo, or any Mudo, Mu Yea, Sul, and Musul in connection with Hwarang, Farang, Wharang, HWA RANG, FA RANG or WHA RANG).

There are translations from the Korean language that have the same meaning. HWA RANG DO® means "The Way of the Flowering Knights" where DO refers to martial art. It can be translated to "Way of the Flowering Manhood" or "Way of the Warrior Knights" or "Way of the Hwarang", "Martial Art of the Hwarang". " TAE SOO DO® means "Way of the Great Hand" or "Way of the Warrior Spirit" or "way of the TaeSoo", "The Martial Art of TaeSoo."

Federal law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for the unauthorized use of these registered names to the any Martial arts instructional business names, any martial arts instructional videos DVDs CDs or web sites. The only authorizing entity to incorporate the word HWA RANG (connected with the martial arts) or HWA RANG DO® and the word TAE SOO DO® (connected with the martial arts) is the World Hwa Rang Do® Association as defined by 17U.S.C. Section 101 et seq. and any violations could be liable for statutory damages as high as $150,000 as set forth in Section 504(c)(2) therein.

Anyone who uses any of the above described variants of the registered names HWA RANG DO® and TAE SOO DO® without proper authorization from the World Hwa Rang Do® Association is contributing to the confusion of the public and the deterioration of the true martial arts' identities as well as the proud individual martial arts in the martial art's community that still follow the true path of martial art!
